The Magic of Astronomy, Magical Murder Mystery, and Magical Legos took place throughout the duration of the 2023 MU Honors Geek Week

This event provided interested students with the deeper meanings behind subject matter within the world of the Harry Potter book series such as the philosopher’s stone from the first novel.Sam Day builds a Lego turtle during Magical Legos on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at Lowry Hall. Lydia Williams, the announcer for the event, used the script to lead participants through the many stages of the event. Macy Monical talks with another attendee of the Magical Murder Mystery event at Memorial Student Union. Monical, also known as “Reese Rich” during the event, was later revealed to be the event’s murder victim. At the Magic of Astronomy event during Geek Week, students were given special glasses to showcase the properties of light.An MU student looks into a telescope aimed at the moon. When not using the telescope, students were taught about constellations and the behavior of light. Dr. Steven Keller showcases the creation of slime as part of a chemistry demonstration on Sept. 22 at Schlundt Hall. Other experiments included freezing a banana with liquid nitrogen and creating a small explosion with guncotton. Students rush to write down their answers at the Magical Trivia event on Sept. 22 at the Student Center. Teams of 1-6 students competed in categories like “Harry Potter,” “Mythology” and “Spelling.”
