Brown played in only two games this season, but was a veteran presence off the bench for coach Gates
Missouri basketball took an unfortunate hit to their roster on the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 21, when it was announced that junior guard Kaleb Brown was ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Brown had played in only two games this season, averaging one point, one rebound and one assist in 6.5 minutes of play. He was the first player off the bench in a home loss against Memphis on Nov. 10. Brown suffered a stress reaction in his left shin, leaving him unavailable to play for the rest of the season.
“Kaleb was our most improved player this summer and to best protect his future, I made the difficult decision to redshirt this season due to his stress reaction,” head coach Dennis Gates said.
In Gates’ statement, he made it clear that a comeback this season was possible for Brown, but he shut him down to protect him for the future.
“There was a chance he could have returned this year but in order to ensure his long-term development and eligibility, we thought it was important to avoid any risks and get back to 100% with his future as the top priority,” Gates said.
Brown did not get much opportunity to contribute this season, but took advantage of his minutes when he played last season. The junior is a solid defender with excellent size for a guard, standing at 6-foot-7, 245-pounds.
Brown will be eligible to play next season for the Tigers upon his return. Since he is redshirting, he will have two more years of college eligibility once this season is complete.
