Photo Story: MU Horticulture Club gives plants a new home

MU Horticulture Club met to build terrariums as a way to learn more about air plants.

MU Horticulture Club meets every week on Wednesdays to learn with hands-on experiences about one thing: plants. MU Horticulture Club officers include junior Alexie Walker, sophomore Kenny Henk, and seniors Khader Saleh and Abby Jensen. During the club’s Nov. 13 meeting, the officers provided members with resources to create their own terrariums for air plants.

Plants and a screen of MU Horticulture in the background. — MU Horticulture Club members were able to bring their own terrariums for the project on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023 at the Agriculture Science Building in Columbia, Mo. The club also provided terrariums for members and their friends who wanted to create their own terrarium.

A student fills a terrarium with small rocks. — A student fills a terrarium with pea gravel, which looks like miniature rocks, for their air plant. Attendees only used a scoop of the gravel because in order for the plants to thrive, the terrarium requires more air than rocks.
