Missouri gymnastics show strong performance against Auburn despite loss
After a season-high score last week, Missouri gymnastics wanted to keep that momentum building in another Tiger vs. Tiger matchup. In the end, they fell with a final score of 197.450-197.000.
Missouri opened the meet on bars, hoping for another strong score after the past two weeks. Senior Kyra Burns opened, scoring a 9.825 on bars, which was followed by Graduate Sienna Schreiber earning a 9.900. Missouri’s “Fab Floor” showed the reason behind the nickname in the third rotation. Schreiber scored a 9.850, but freshman Hannah Horton struggled during her floor routine. She overotated her dismount 2.5 twist tumbling pass and fell, scoring a 9.175. Junior Amari Celestine got the “Fab Floor” under control, scoring a huge 9.925, which was seconded by a 9.9 from freshman Kennedy Griffin. Moore displayed near perfection on floor with a 9.950, her eighth 9.9 or above routine of the season to give Missouri a total of 49.475.
Auburn saw struggles on beam. Brusch wobbled on her flight series and scored a 9.750. Senior Gabby McLaughlin also struggled on beam by falling, and only scoring a 9.225 to give Auburn a total 49.325. Missouri extended their narrow lead as a result.
