The Tigers lit up the first half and cruised to victory in the second with much of the roster seeing the pitch
Missouri Tigers Soccer trounces Southeast Missouri State 5-0 after career days for a number of players.
“Five different goal scorers on the night… it’s the type of performance that we wanted and needed,” Missouri Head Coach Stefanie Golan said after the match.
Missouri found offensive rhythm early, scoring in the 12th minute off a header from forward Kylee Simmons thanks to a cross from midfielder Leah Selm. This was Simmons’ first goal of the season after her 11-goal campaign in 2023. Simmons continued the attack in the first half with a shot on goal in the 19th minute, but was saved by Redhawks Goalkeeper Sophia Elfrink.

shots, one goal and two assists up on the sheet during their victory.
The Tigers found the back of the net again in the 24th minute when forward Landis Canada passed Selm a through ball for her first goal of the season. Simmons orchestrated the offense down the pitch to set up midfielder Monica Brauner with the header 29 seconds after the second goal. This goal is a memorable one, as it was the first collegiate goal for the redshirt freshman.
“We have a really strong togetherness and we really love each other,” Brauner said. “The joy that this team plays with was on display tonight after every goal. Having a night like this heading into the tough conference stretch is very important to the Tigers. Having multiple players that can score and come off the bench and score is going to be really big to last all the way through the season.”
Forward Brianna Buels burst onto the scene after subbing in by drilling a penalty kick opportunity in the 30th minute. Buels has seen limited action this season due to perceived injuries, but looks to capitalize on her strong freshman season that included three goals.
The Tigers were not done as they scored their fifth goal of the game courtesy of forward Bella Carrillo in the 56th minute. Carrillo was another benefactor of the blowout, getting her first career goal. This helped break a four-match winless streak, as the Tigers emerged victorious for the first time since Aug. 15.
This game was a good opportunity for many players who have seen limited or no action to get playing time. Freshmen Mckenna Moran, Ava Vetter and Callaway Combs and sophomores Ana DiMaria and Kate Phillips saw their first action of the season in tonight’s win.
“In a game where we felt like we had an opportunity to reward them for what they’ve been putting out in training, there were a lot of good performances,” Golan said.
The Tigers move to 2-3-1 as they prepare to face the Duke Blue Devils (4-1) in an away match on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. in Durham, North Carolina.
