The Chiefs improve to 7-0 after a victory over the Raiders
The Kansas City Chiefs remain the last undefeated team in the NFL after a 27-20 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Here are three takeaways from the Chiefs’ Week 8 victory.
Defensive line
The Chiefs’ defensive line yet again showed why they are revered by the league, holding the Las Vegas offense to just 33 total rushing yards on 21 attempts. This severely limited the Raiders’ entire offensive game plan, as they were forced to try and produce through the air.
The Chiefs were consistently able to get into the backfield, resulting in 7 tackles for a loss, led by linebacker Drue Tranquill with 3.The Chiefs additionally had 5 sacks of Raiders’ quarterback Gardner Minshew. The Chiefs’ defense has allowed the third-fewest rushing yards as a team in the NFL this season.
Just like old times
Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes was able to put on a show in Las Vegas. Mahomes is still undefeated at 7-0 throughout his career playing away against the Raiders.
Mahomes put up 262 yards with a 71% completion percentage along with two touchdowns and a tipped pass interception. Minshew was also able to put together a tangible performance. He recorded 209 yards on an 80% completion percentage along with two touchdowns of his own.
Not only was Mahomes able to put up numbers closer to what we saw early in his career, but so was tight end Travis Kelce. Kelce went for 90 yards on 10 catches and caught his first touchdown pass of the season in Week 8.
Other keys to the game
Kansas City had a total of five receivers go for 29 or more yards. Rookie Xavier Worthy continued to produce at a steady rate, raking in four catches for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Newly acquired wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was able to make a mark after he was traded from the Titans less than a week before the game. Hopkins caught two passes for 29 yards, including a sideline 16-yard reception that helped set the Chiefs up for a field goal right before the end of the first half.
On the ground for the Chiefs, things slowed up a bit production-wise compared to previous weeks, as the Chiefs currently rank No. 10 in rushing yards in the league. However, running back Kareem Hunt still rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.
