Inah Canete and Korina Roso shined in doubles action amidst an up-and-down tournament for the Missouri tennis team
Missouri tennis concluded their fall season at the TCU Jae Foundation Fall Open in Fort Worth, Texas from Thursday, Oct. 31 to Sunday, Nov. 3.
The team lost in several singles matches by TCU and only won one of their two doubles matches. Senior Inah Canete and freshman Korina Roso won 6-3 over Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Andreea Lila from Texas Tech. Graduate student Lailaa Bashir lost her only match of the event in a close contest against TCU’s Helena Narmont, falling short 6-4, 0-6, 10-8 in tiebreak.
Things improved on day two with Canete defeating Cincinnati’s Sakurako Watanabe 6-3, 6-7(5), 10-4 in the tiebreaker. Freshman Gian Octa racked up her first win of the event against Cincinnati’s Callie Flanagan, winning 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets.
Although Octa and Sarah Hartel lost both of their doubles matches, day three marked another victory for Canete and Roso. Together, they beat Carrie Beckman and Esther Vyrlan from Notre Dame in a tiebreak with a final score of 7-5, and continued on to grab a 6-4 win over the pairing of Flanagan and Watanabe.
Canete and Roso finished the tournament with a 4-0 record in doubles matches, after they pulled out a 6-3 win over Caroline McGinley and Arianna Stavropoulos from Southern Methodist. Both players won their singles matches, with Canete defeating Saara Orav from Rice 7-5, 6-0. Roso wrapped up her performance taking down Aida Eissa of Maryland 6-4, 6-0. Octa and Hartel lost their doubles match and each of their singles matches, respectively.
The next event for the Tigers is the spring season opener, the FIU Hidden Duals from Jan. 9-12, in Miami.
