The win was the highest point differential of Missouri’s season
Missouri women’s basketball picked up its fourth win of the season with a win over Saint Louis University. A final score that was racked all the way up to 112-59 made for the largest point differential of Missouri’s season so far.
This massive point total was achieved through a balanced attack from Missouri that saw five double digit scorers.
The large number of scorers for the Tigers helped to balance out the scoring.
“We’ve got a lot of players that have the ability to score and just to kind of surrender that for we-over me,” Missouri Head Coach Robin Pingeton said.
Willingness to sacrifice statistics for and success is something this Missouri team is exhibiting in the early stages of the season.
Abbey Schreacke led the way in scoring with 19 points, including five triples. Following her was Laniah Randle with 15 points, Grace Slaughter with 14 and Angelique Ngalakulondi with 11. Ashton Judd also got in double digits with 10 points with other scoring contributions as well.
Missouri’s inability to distribute the ball without turning it over was another key factor in the Tigers’ victory.
“The stat that sticks out the most to me is our assist to turnover [ratio]… I thought we passed out some good shots for great shots, and seemed like we’re a lot more willing to make that extra pass tonight, which I think is huge,” Pingeton said.
Tilda Sjökvist led the way in the assist to turnover department with seven assists without turning the ball over. Her assist total tied her personal best for the second highest single game assist total of her career.
The Missouri defense was hounding the Billikens all night long. The zone-defense trap implemented by Pingeton and her staff forced 24 Saint Louis turnovers.
It also forced the Billikens to beat Missouri from three, which they failed to do. Missouri’s opponent finished shooting 7-for-28 from three. This was the most threes the Billikens attempted all season long, which was a part of the Missouri’s plan for the game, forcing Saint Louis to attempt a higher volume of perimeter shots.
Missouri hosted Little Rock on Friday and picked up a win to advance to 5-2. Following that, a trip to Destin, Fla. for the Emerald Coast Classic is in line.
Missouri faces Southern Methodist on Thursday, Dec. 5th with an opportunity to move to 8-3.
