The Tigers can’t seem to find their footing, as two more SEC losses now make four in a row
The Missouri tennis team continued their losing skid, dropping two more SEC matches over the weekend. Both losses against the No. 2 Texas A&M Aggies and the No. 13 Texas Longhorns occurred at home.
Against the Aggies, Missouri didn’t take more than three of six sets in any match that finished, singles or doubles. Freshman Korina Roso was one of the few highlights of the day, taking her singles game against sophomore Lucciana Perez into extra sets that ultimately went unfinished. She also had the best score of any of the Missouri doubles teams with her partner, senior Mary Brumfield. However, the pair lost to senior Mary Stoiana and Perez with a final score of 6-3. In the end, the Tigers were swept 4-0.
On Sunday, Missouri attempted to rebound against the No. 13 Longhorns. Once again, Roso had the major highlight of the day, claiming the first set 7-5 in tiebreak, before taking the second set 6-4 to beat fellow freshman Salma Drugdova on court five.
Freshman Gian Octa was the only other Tiger to take a set in her singles action against Texas sophomore Shachf Lieberman, but she was eventually defeated 7-5, 6-0. Roso and Brumfield played another close match on doubles court one, this time against senior Sabina Zeynalova and redshirt freshman Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz, but the match went unfinished. Roso’s singles win was the only win of the day for Missouri, leaving the Tigers to fall to the Longhorns 6-1.
The Tigers will be on the road to play two more SEC matches this weekend against No. 63 Florida and No. 11 Auburn. These matches will take place on Friday, March 21 in Gainesville, Florida, and Sunday, March 23 in Auburn, Alabama.
