Missouri men’s golf took a trip to Kettering, Ohio, for its fourth match of the season – the Moraine Intercollegiate. The Tigers placed third overall in the tournament after a day three collapse that dropped them from first place, which they held through the first two days. Junior Veikka Viskari once again led the way for Missouri, tying with sophomore Trent Mierl for seventh place.
Viskari had a stellar first day, shooting 62 (9-under-par) and recording zero bogeys. However, milder scores of 72 and 73 on the second and third day left him 6-under-par for the week. Viskari lost his first overall placement on the third day, which he held through the first two rounds.
Mierl’s seventh place finish is his best of the season. The sophomore shot 6-under-par, with an average score of 69. Steady production was the story of the week for Mierl, as he shot under par on each of the three days.
Junior Bradley Mulder was Missouri’s third-best golfer this week, finishing 4-under-par with an average score of 69.7. Much like the team, Mulder collapsed on the third day, which shot him from second place all the way down to 13th. The junior’s best round came on the first day, when he shot a 66, recording zero bogeys.
Senior Virgilio Paz finished 38th, posting an average score of 71.7 (2-up). His play hung around par all week, with his best round coming on the second day when he shot 70 (1-under-par).
Freshman Reese Roberts continued his struggles, finishing in 55th place. The freshman was 7-up on the week, posting an average score of 73.3. His best round came on day two, where he held even par, shooting a score of 71.
Xavier University came in first place, backed by individual first and second place finishes from freshman Cayse Morgan and junior Ray Filter. Xavier held steady in second place through the first two days of the match and capitalized on a poor third day from Missouri, jumping into first place.
The Tigers will be back at it Oct. 27 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for their final match of the fall season.
