Sherriff’s deputies responded to a child abuse call last Monday at 6001 N. Creasy Springs Road, after a witness reported that 28-year-old Michael Brown punched his 10-year-old son.
Although the call came from the address on N. Creasy Springs Road, officers first made contact with the victim at the hospital, where he underwent surgery for a serious eye injury sustained during the assault.
The victim had to be rushed to the hospital by his mother, because of an extensive eye injury he received from Brown.
“I know his eye was swollen shut,” Detective Tom O’Sullivan of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department said. “Apparently he had two broken orbital bones.”
Officers first made contact with the victim at the hospital where he was undergoing surgery for his injury.
“I know they had concerns about it and it is going to require more surgery,” O’Sullivan said. “The doctors didn’t tell the mother to just put ice on it and that it will be better in two to three days. They’re going to have to go back to the hospital and monitor it and check up on it.”
The witness told officers that Brown and his son were having an argument when it escalated into a violent altercation. O’Sullivan said he was unsure if previous reports of child abuse had been brought against Brown.
“It’s totally inappropriate to take that kind of action with a 10-year-old boy,” O’Sullivan said.
Brown was arrested by officers Friday for first-degree assault. He is being held at Boone County Jail on a $100,000 cash only bond.
“We work quite a bit with child abuse cases,” O’Sullivan said. “We have them all the time. There’s too much.”
