A credit card stolen at gunpoint on campus Feb. 1 was used at a Columbia gas station shortly after the incident, according to an MU Police Department news release.
The student, who had been walking near the intersection of Rollins Street and East Campus Drive at about 2 a.m., reported two men exited a small, white four-door vehicle and put on dark-colored masks before approaching her. The suspects robbed her at gunpoint, taking two cell phones and a wallet with credit cards.
The victim’s stolen credit card was used twice at the I-70 Eagle Stop on North Providence Road shortly afterward, according to the news release. The card was used at 2:34 and 2:42 a.m.
In the first transaction, the suspect purchased a carton of cigarettes, five Crossword lottery tickets and three Power 7’s lottery tickets for a total of $69.17, according to the MUPD news release. The same credit card was used a few minutes later to purchase 15 Sweet 7’s lottery tickets for a total of $15.
Surveillance images show the suspect wearing dark sweatpants and a dark sweatshirt, matching the victim’s earlier description. Images from the gas station parking lot show the suspect driving a white, four-door vehicle.
“The media helps us get the description out to the public and to see if anyone recognizes the car or the suspects,” MUPD Capt. Scott Richardson said.
