A Columbia woman was arrested in Monroe County after allegedly leading a state trooper on a short chase. Courtney Bean, 25, was making a left turn when she traveled into the opposite lane of traffic at about 11:30 p.m. on April 2.
“We attempted to make a vehicle stop on her, she fled for just a short time but they got her in to custody,” a Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman said.
Joe Colston, Chief Deputy of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department said that some of his deputies were called in, but when they arrived the highway patrolmen were handling the incident.
Missouri State Highway Trooper K.E. Easley said the chase lasted about two minutes.
“I’m glad it was a short pursuit,” he said. “The length of them vary, but I’m glad this one was shorter because it put less people in danger who may have been out at night.”
Easley said the chase ended when Bean pulled into a residence and went inside. He did not disclose the identity of the tenant, but said it was not Bean’s home. Easley announced his presence before entering the house and said Bean was cooperative in her arrest, he said.
Easley said he doesn’t know why Bean turned into the lane of oncoming traffic, but a vehicle search led him to believe it was not substance related.
“I do know that sometimes people make a short turning radius and it’s a clue of impairment of alcohol,” he said. “However, I did not find her to be impaired by alcohol or any other substance.”
Bean was taken to the Monroe County Jail after being charged for resisting arrest by fleeing, careless and imprudent driving, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, according to a report.
Colston confirmed Bean posted out on a $1,000 bond on April 3. Easley said her court date is set for May 17.
