Three Columbia men were arrested Saturday evening on multiple drug charges, including possession of the hallucinogenic drug Dimethyltryptamine, or DMT.

MU Police Department Capt. Scott Richardson said an officer encountered the three suspects at about 9 p.m. Saturday.

“An officer was on routine patrol in parking lot AV-9, over by the Agriculture Building, when he noticed the individuals walking up from the trail,” Richardson said. “He came upon the subjects and found them to be in possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and DMT.”

Sophomore Marcus Solomon was arrested on suspicion of possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana. Columbia resident Skylar Tolson was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana.

Freshman Jacob Finn was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use and possession of a controlled substance.

Richardson said the difference between Finn’s paraphernalia charge and Tolson’s charge was the type of ordinance involved.

“It’s essentially the same paraphernalia charge,” Richardson said. “They’re technically the same, but the difference is that Finn’s charge comes from a state statute, and the other comes from a city ordinance violation. It just works with a different court system.”

According to the Missouri Revised Statutes, possession of DMT is classified as a Class C felony and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use is a Class A misdemeanor. Neither Tolson, 19, nor Solomon, 20, were taken to Boone County Jail. Finn, 19, was taken into custody and released Sunday on $5,000 bond.
