1. Man flees on foot, runs through daycare
Columbia Police Department officers chased a man on foot through Douglass Park on Thursday after identifying him as the suspect in an assault with his on-again, off-again girlfriend, CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.
Ryan Lee Jennings fled through the park around 4 p.m. As he fled, he entered property of a daycare on Park Avenue operated by the Columbia Housing Authority. Jennings has been banned from all Columbia Housing Authority property.
Previously, Jennings had been charged with domestic assault of his girlfriend when he refused to leave her and her two-year-old son’s residence after kicking in the door.
Jennings faces charges of first-degree burglary, third-degree domestic assault, second-degree property damage, first-degree trespassing and resisting or interfering with arrest.
2. Man turns himself in following false identity
A Columbia man turned himself in to police Thursday after using a false identity to avoid prosecution, Stroer said.
John Curtis Auffenberg turned himself in around 5 p.m. for a crime he committed June 6. Auffenberg was originally arrested on charges of second-degree property damage at the Walmart Supercenter at 415 Conley Road.
During the arrest, Auffenberg used a false identity to prevent prosecution. When he turned himself in Thursday, he was charged with deceiving a law enforcement officer and second-degree property damage.
3. Man lifts shirt at private party, reveals gun
Officers were dispatched to a private party Sunday morning at the 300 block of West Brookside Lane after a man refused to leave the residence.
Charles Darnel President was reportedly armed at the residence around 1:30 a.m. He arrived at the residence and lifted his shirt, revealed a gun and yelled he had warrants. When officers arrived at the residence, they detained President. He was asked to leave, but refused.
President was arrested on charges of second-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
In addition, he was arrested on a domestic assault charge he had been accused of in July after President allegedly assaulted his wife when he grabbed and dumped her purse on the ground and followed her into a residence, where he came behind her and pushed her head into a wall.
President’s mother drove the victim in a car to the hospital, and President came with them. When the pair exited the car, the victim told police President punched her in the face.
