A car struck a female pedestrian on Thursday evening in front of the MU Student Center as she was crossing Rollins Street.
Emergency personnel were dispatched at 5:49 p.m. Thursday night to the scene of the injury accident.
Farhana Jchaj was driving a blue Toyota Sienna with her 13-year-old son when she struck the pedestrian.
“We had stopped at the yield sign and noticed a crowd of girls on the left side of the street in front of us,” Jchaj said. “I don’t know what happened – maybe the sun was in my eyes – but the next thing I know I see a girl on the phone running in front of my car.”
MUPD and the Columbia Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim in an ambulance.
“The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening upon arrival,” Capt. John Metz said.
Jchaj was very apologetic on the scene.
“I just feel really sorry for hitting her,” she said.
