1. CPD arrests two after money dispute gets out of hand
Two men were arrested Tuesday night after getting into a money dispute.
Columbia Police Department officers were dispatched at 10:18 p.m. Tuesday to the West Sexton Road area in response to a larceny report. According to CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer, Bobby Lee Harvey, 74, got into a dispute with a male victim over money. The victim said that Harvey threatened to shoot him. When he was talking to the police, Harvey was found to have a loaded handgun within his immediate reach and was arrested on charges of domestic assault in the third degree.
Officers also contacted Derrick Cooper, 22, in reference to the missing money. Cooper threw a pen at the officers and resisted when the officers moved to arrest him. He was charged with resisting arrest and third-degree assault of a law enforcement officer.
2. Man arrested on charges of marijuana possession in McDonald’s drive-thru
A man was arrested Wednesday morning on charges of marijuana possession. Police got a report at 2:32 a.m. Wednesday from the McDonald’s at 205 E. Business Loop 70 about a man asleep in the drive-thru line. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers found a large bag of marijuana in the driver’s lap. The bag and vehicle belonged to Brian Rogers, 30, and contained substantially more than 35 grams of marijuana. Rogers was arrested on charges of possession of controlled substances with a $4,500 bond, as well as charges of failure to appear for an earlier charge of trespassing.
3. Two students arrested on charges of underage drinking
Officers arrested two MU students Wednesday night on charges of underage drinking. The officers were performing an open business check at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday at the Fieldhouse Bar at 1105 Broadway St. They observed two youthful looking female subjects holding what appeared to be mixed drinks in their hands. Mary Heatley and Michelah Orchard, both 20, were arrested for purchase or possession of alcohol by minors.
4. Man arrested on charges of open container of alcohol
Columbia Police Department officers observed a male subject with a beer bottle in his hand at 1:00 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Hitt Street and Locust Street. The subject was 21-year-old Blaze Davis, an MU junior. According to CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer, Blaze saw the officers and dropped the beer bottle in the grass. He was arrested on charges of possession of an open container of alcohol and littering.
