The chants heard, signs seen and cheering produced at the centennial Homecoming’s final event provided a high-energy conclusion to the celebration.

Hundreds of students gathered at 8 p.m. Sunday outside Jesse Hall as the 2011 Homecoming Steering Committee announced the winners of the various Homecoming competitions in the campus organization and Greek Life divisions.

The Homecoming Steering Committee first announced the campus organization winners.

Delta Sigma Pi and Phi Sigma Pi tied for first place in merchandise. Phi Sigma Pi also received first place in public relations.

Royalty was a three-way tie for first place between the Alumni Association Student Board, Global Medical Brigades and Dream Outside the Box, all of which had members on the Homecoming court.

Alpha Kappa Psi won the blood drive competition, the United States Green Building Council placed first in Decorating the District and Missouri Crew won the parade division.

Overall, the Alumni Association Student Board placed first, followed by Alpha Kappa Psi, Phi Sigma Pi, Delta Sigma Pi and the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.

“We invest time into Homecoming because we respect what Homecoming means to our campus,” Alumni Association Student Board President Zach Parolin said. “I’m proud of the work the organization has put in to make the most of the experience.”

Members of the Homecoming Steering Committee then announced the winners of the Greek Life competitions.

Five groupings won first place in Royalty: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Rho and Beta Sigma Psi; Kappa Alpha Theta and Delta Tau Delta; Kappa Delta and Phi Kappa Theta; Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Gamma Sigma and Tau Kappa Epsilon; and Zeta Tau Alpha, Delta Sigma Phi and Sigma Pi. All five groupings had members represented in the Homecoming Court.

Chi Omega, FarmHouse and Kappa Sigma placed first in public relations.

First place for service resulted in a six-way tie between Alpha Chi Omega and Lambda Chi Alpha; Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Rho and Beta Sigma Psi; Kappa Alpha Theta and Delta Tau Delta; Kappa Delta and Phi Kappa Theta; and Pi Beta Phi and Pi Kappa Psi.

Sigma Sigma Sigma, Alpha Epsilon Pi and Delta Chi placed first in talent and received the superlatives for best script and best actor. The partnership also won first place in campus decorations along with the design, creativity, storyline and character awards.

Sigma Sigma Sigma President Samantha Green said she credits the pairing’s high performance to the collaboration of its members.

“Our pairing worked so well together,” Green said. “It was a huge group effort. The gentlemen of Alpha Epsilon Pi and Delta Chi were an absolute pleasure to work with. They came up with great ideas and contributed a lot.”

Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Rho and Beta Sigma Psi; Kappa Alpha Theta and Delta Tau Delta; and Kappa Delta and Phi Kappa Theta tied for first place in the blood drive.

Alpha Chi Omega and Lambda Chi Alpha won decorating the district. Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Rho and Beta Sigma Psi received first place in Parade.

Overall, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Rho and Beta Sigma Psi placed first, followed by Kappa Alpha Theta and Delta Tau Delta; Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Gamma Sigma and Tau Alpha Epsilon; Kappa Delta and Phi Kappa Theta; and Zeta Tau Alpha, Delta Sigma Phi and Sigma Pi. Members of the winning partnership burst into cheers as DJ Khaled’s “All I Do is Win” played over the speakers.

“We’re just really excited that (the win) happened on the 100th Homecoming,” said Megan Stroup, Alpha Delta Pi president and former Maneater staff member. “It’s not something we’ll forget.”

Alpha Delta Pi, which won Greek Week the past two years, last won Homecoming in 2008. Stroup said both focusing on the previous year’s weaknesses and working well with Alpha Gamma Rho and Beta Sigma Psi contributed to this year’s win.

“We were lucky to have such a good pairing,” Stroup said.

Green said this year’s Homecoming competition was the best one she has seen.

“(Homecoming) really draws people together,” she said. “It’s a great chance to get to know other (chapters) and put all of our talent on display.”
