1. Man shoots handgun in altercation
A Columbia man was arrested after he shot a handgun during an altercation at Douglass Park.
A witness called police at 6:18 p.m. when he observed Lamont W. Boone, 18, fight another man and fire a shot during the altercation, according to a Columbia Police Department report. He was arrested on charges of armed criminal action, first-degree assault and unlawful use of weapons.
2. Woman snaps husband’s cellphone in half, tears down telephone line
Police responded to a disturbance after a Columbia woman broke the windows of her spouse’s trailer, snapped his cellphone in two and tore down the telephone line outside, according to a Columbia Police Department report.
Police arrested Cassandra Willams, 29, on the scene at the 2900 block of Rangeline Street. Williams admitted to her involvement in the incident and was arrested on charges of first-degree property damage, domestic assault and tampering.
3. Man arrested after stealing wire
Allen Heywood, 18, was arrested after witnesses saw him removing items from a fenced area at 3:16 a.m. Friday.
Police responded to a report of trespassing on the 1500 block of Business Loop 70 East, according to Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer. Officers took Heywood into custody, and approximately 80 feet of copper wire was found near Heywood’s location. He stole electrical transformers and metallic wire, according to the police report, and was arrested on charges of trespassing and stealing wire.
