1. Police make underage alcohol arrest
Police arrested a minor at Bengal’s Bar and Grill while conducting a business check. Alexander J. Gavin, 19, was arrested Thursday at about 11 p.m. at 227 South Sixth St. according to a Columbia Police Department report.
Officers noticed Gavin and believed he was underage. When questioned, Gavin, who was in possession of an alcoholic beverage, said he did not have his identification with him. When officers ran his name, they found he is 19 years old. He was arrested on charges of deception of a law enforcement officer, false identification and purchase or possession of alcohol by a minor.
2. One arrested after marijuana discovery in residence hall
MU police were dispatched at 12:23 a.m. Friday to the Dobbs area after Residential Life staff smelled marijuana.
“Officers made contact with ResLife,” Capt. Scott Richardson said.
Officers then searched the room of Denton Frederick, 18. Frederick was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and minor in possession of alcohol.
3. Officers investigate odor, find alcohol
MU Police Department were dispatched at 11:12 p.m. Friday to Laws Residence Hall after Residential Life staff smelled marijuana coming from a room belonging to Michael Kotsovos, 18.
“Officers found no marijuana,” Richardson said.
But once in Kotsovos’ room, police did find alcohol. Kotsovos was arrested on charges of minor in possession of intoxicants.
**Update:** Kotsovos was dismissed of all charges.
4. Officers find marijuana, cocaine following traffic violation
Police discovered a bag of marijuana and a substance consistent with cocaine in a car after pulling over a vehicle that illegally passed another in a no-passing zone.
Shawn Boshai Hunter, 28, was arrested after being stopped on Garth Avenue from Business Loop 70 at about 9:55 p.m. Saturday night, according to a Columbia Police Department report. The officer saw Hunter’s silver Dodge Caliber traveling towards him, passing one vehicle in a double line no-passing zone. When the officer pulled the car over, he found a bag of marijuana and a white substance consistent with cocaine between the seats, according to the police report.
Hunter was arrested on charges of one felony and one misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance, operation of a motor vehicle without a proper license and operation of a vehicle in a careless manner.
