1. Arrest made in Rock Bridge cafeteria fire
Police arrested a Columbia teen after she burned a newspaper in the Rock Bridge High School cafeteria.
Hannah Hutchinson, 18, was arrested Thursday morning after knowingly burning a newspaper in the school cafeteria at 4303 S. Providence Road, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.
An officer walked in and smelled a strong odor, which smelled like something burning. He found a newspaper had been set on fire and a wooden table that had also been put out. After watching the surveillance video, he was able to determine that the student who set the fire was Hutchinson.
She was arrested on suspicion of knowingly burning or exploding, according to police report.
2. Heroin discovered after assault investigation
A suspect in an assault investigation was reportedly found with heroin after the incident Friday.
Cora Catelin Collins, 27, was arrested at 5:23 p.m. Friday after she got into an altercation with a 22-year-old female victim.
The victim came into Collins’ room at the 2000 block of Burrwood Drive and poured a glass full of water and cigarettes onto Collins’ bed. This angered Collins, and she proceeded to punch the victim in the forehead and left cheek and scratch the victim’s bottom lip. When officers arrived on the scene, they noticed a small plastic bag on the desk in the room, according to a CPD police report. The bag was in plain sight and had a brown powdery substance inside.
The officers determined the substance was heroin, and Collins was arrested on suspicion of third-degree domestic assault and possession of a controlled substance.
3. Teen attempts to steal vodka from Walmart
Jawaun Deandrae Alexander, 17, was arrested when a loss prevention employee saw him conceal two bottles of vodka beneath his clothing and try to leave without paying at about 6 p.m. Friday at the Walmart at 415 Conley Road.
When confronted, Alexander implicated himself, according to a police report. He was arrested on suspicion of purchase or possession of alcohol by a minor and misdemeanor theft.
