1. Man charged with smacking another with baseball bat
A man was arrested Tuesday evening after being charged with attacking someone with a baseball bat.
At 6:19 p.m. officers were dispatched to the intersection of Switzler and Bryant streets in response to a disturbance and found Princesullman Mohammed, 28, involved in an altercation with another man. The victim said Mohammed had smashed the driver’s side window of his car with a baseball bat and then hit the victim on his left arm.
According to a Columbia Police Department report, the victim had to go the hospital and have surgery on his arm due to an open fracture wound inflicted by Mohammed. Mohammed was arrested on suspicion of armed criminal action, second-degree property damage and second-degree assault.
2. One arrested on cocaine charges
A woman was arrested Tuesday on charges of cocaine possession. Officers were patrolling in the area of Sexton Road and Cook Avenue at 9 p.m. when they saw a vehicle they knew to be associated with Sunny Spring Monie-Turnbow, 29, who had a warrant out for her arrest, according to a CPD report. When Monie-Turnbow saw the officers, she tried to throw a crack pipe to the ground without the officers noticing before she was arrested.
Monie-Turnbow was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and a felony warrant for tampering with a motor vehicle.
3. CPD officers arrest one on charges of infant abuse
An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on charges of child abuse. At 2:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to University Hospital at 1 Hospital Drive in response to a call about child abuse. They contacted Jonathan Rainey, who, according to a police report, caused severe physical injures to an 18-week-old baby girl. Rainey claimed he set the baby on the bed and she had rolled off, and he admitted to shaking her multiple times to wake her up. The child suffered bleeding in the brain consistent with blunt force trauma, as well as injures to her chest and bruising behind the ears and on her left temple. Rainey admitted to being the only person with her when the victim received her injures. He was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and second-degree assault.
4. One arrested on charges of marijuana possession
A CPD officer arrested a man Tuesday on charges of marijuana possession. The officer was patrolling at 10:02 p.m. on Scott Boulevard near Rollins Road when he observed a vehicle going 59 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone. When the officer stopped the vehicle, he noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, Jeremy Delissio, 18, was in possession of three marijuana cigarettes. The officer arrested Delissio on suspicion of possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana and then released him on a signature summons.
