With win after win for the No. 3 ranked MU basketball team, ticket demand for each game has become incredibly high this season.
Sophomore Justin Masse said last year it was hard to find someone to buy a ticket because attendance at the games was extremely light.
“All the bandwagon people really jumped on this year,” Masse said. “We would get there half an hour early last year for non Zou-crew seating, and we were in the first row. This year, we are halfway up the stands.”
In addition to asking a friend, students can post in different groups on Facebook in order to find a ticket. A student can post in groups such as the University of [Missouri TicketExchange](https://www.facebook.com/groups/218801944843358/) or [Mizzou Ticketmarket](https://www.facebook.com/groups/162697193813471/) at anytime to ask who is selling a ticket and at what price to sell their own.
“(I started Missouri TicketExchange) because there was too many annoying posts about selling football tickets on the Mizzou University Freshman class page,” freshman John Tenny said.
The demand for tickets is usually at its peak about a week before the actual game.
Students will sell a ticket for a basketball game at an average price of $10 to 20, Masse said. But there are times when students will pay a higher price.
“It would depend heavily on the opponent, but if it was bound to be a good game, (tickets would cost) probably close to $50,” freshman Chad Phillips said.
Before school started, Phillips bought the Student Season Package deal, which included tickets to every home football game and the privilege to pick up 3 out of 4 packages of basketball tickets for the 2011-12 season. He said he is content with his decision.
“The way the team is playing this year, its hard not to be happy with any kind of tickets for any price,” Phillips said. “However, I will admit, having to wake up early and wait in line to get the tickets I already paid for is a little frustrating at times.”
In order to bypass the early morning lines, some students signed up for Zou Crew. The first 500 students to sign up received all of their tickets for the season at one time. Freshman Steve Goldberg was one such student.
“(All you do is) pay $10 to be in Zou Crew and you already get the tickets if you bought the student discount,” Goldberg said.
Generally, students who do not buy the Student Discount Package or are in Zou Crew are OK with paying high prices for tickets other students got at a discounted average price.
“I think in general it’s alright,” Goldberg said. “People don’t have a problem with it. They are willing to spend the money if they want to go to the game.”
The high demand in ticket sales this year demonstrates how much pride the students have in their school. Phillips said his pride in the Tigers is unwavering.
“I think the main reason I bought these tickets was to support the team and my school through the tough games and the easy ones,” he said.
