1. Three arrested after pointing gun at students from church parking lot
Three people were arrested after pointing a gun at Hickman High School students from the parking lot of a church.
Andrew L. Barnette-Kruger, 18, Julian Fuller Chase, 18, and Gustin A. Jackson, 17, were each arrested on suspicion of four counts of third-degree assault at 1:41 a.m. Thursday after they were reported at the First Assembly of God parking lot at 1100 N. Seventh St. pointing a gun from inside their vehicle at Hickman High School students nearby.
When officers found the vehicle driving near Providence Road and Research Park Drive, they stopped it and detained the individuals in the car, according to a Columbia Police Department report. They were identified as the suspects involved, and when the vehicle was searched, a black BB pellet pistol was found beneath the driver’s seat.
2. Jesse Hall worker steals hundreds from university
MU police arrested Diamond Boyd, 18, on Thursday following an investigation of multiple thefts.
“She stole cash multiple times while working at Jesse Hall,” MUPD Capt. Brian Weimer said. “She stole the money from the University of Missouri.”
Boyd was arrested on suspicion of theft. The charge is a felony because Boyd was reported to have stolen more than $500.
3. Man urinates in Peace Park, resists arrest
MU police officers on patrol at 1:18 a.m. Friday on Elm Street reportedly saw Matthew Chandler, 21, publicly urinating in Peace Park.
“Officers observed a man with his pants down, urinating in a bush,” MUPD Capt. Brian Weimer said. “Officers told him to stop, but he kept going.”
When officers tried restraining Chandler, he struggled.
“The suspect tried pulling away,” Weimer said. “He was told to stop resisting, but he kept forcefully resisting.”
Chandler was arrested on suspicion of public nuisance and resisting arrest.
4. One arrested for fake parking meter receipts
MU police arrested Devin Banks on Friday after interviewing him about fraudulent parking meter receipts.
“An officer on patrol in the Hitt Street Garage noticed the passes,” Weimer said.
Officers tracked the car with the reproduced receipts to Banks. Once they identified him, officers brought Banks to the MU Police Station to question him about the fake receipts.
“After the interview, he was arrested,” Weimer said.
Banks, 20, was arrested on suspicion of reproducing and stealing parking meter receipts.
5. Sleeping trespasser assaults resident
Police arrested a Columbia man after he fell asleep in the basement of an apartment complex and then hit the person who called police notifying them of the trespasser.
Brandin Major G Bell, 20, was found sleeping Saturday morning in the basement of the Frederick Apartments at 1001 University Ave.
The person who found Bell at 9:06 a.m. could not tell if he was breathing, so the victim alerted police.
Bell reportedly woke up and the victim told Bell to wait before leaving, because the officers were on their way to check Bell out. Bell tried to go past the victim, but the victim attempted to detain him. Bell shoved and swung at the victim, hitting the victim in the shoulder.
Bell was arrested for first-degree trespassing and third-degree assault.
