The story of Commander Shepard comes to a close with the release of Mass Effect 3.
Earth is overrun with the deadly and towering Reapers and it’s up to Shepard to traverse the galaxy and acquire as many troops and resources as possible in order to take down the Reapers once and for all.
Players will be taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions that range from pure awe to gut-wrenching sadness, which culminates into one of the most exciting events in the entire series.
Since this is the last installation of the Mass Effect trilogy, there is a sense of finality throughout the story. This is the final battle against the Reapers and acquiring as many troops as possible throughout the galaxy is a daunting task, one that requires dedication and sacrifice. A lot of the latter occurs as the story progresses. Some well-known characters can die throughout the story, which is bound to tug at the player’s emotions. Each mission brings Shepard closer to the end, but also shows the many hardships and challenges he has had to overcome in order to make a final stand against the Reapers.
Battles are intense and Bioware has given the game better graphics to view these intense events. Some of the locations in the game offer a very grand but terrifying view as Reapers have taken over and destroy the city piece by piece. The textures are smoother and more detailed, giving the game an even more lifelike feel. Minor glitches do occur but are easily dismissed when considering the amount of things happening on the screen at the same time.
Multiplayer makes its debut in the series as well. Players will embark on cooperative missions to quell enemy forces in waves and attempt to slowly take back portions of the galaxy from the Reapers. The experience is only fun if players can coordinate attacks and work together to complete objects, so get friendly with your online comrades or prepare for a quick defeat.
“Mass Effect 3” brings not only more action-packed scenes but also waves of emotion. The events that transpire from beginning to end set the tone for the last few minutes of the game, which has become a controversy among the fan base. However, this reviewer believes the ending has given enough closure on the series that it is satisfying. It has been an amazing ride with Commander Shepard and Mass Effect 3 is a great ending to the series.
