1. Police hear loud music in car, find cocaine
Police arrested Chauncey Erin Howard, 27, at 5:06 p.m. Friday when officers performed a traffic stop because Howard’s car stereo could be heard more than 50 feet from the vehicle, according to Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer.
The car was stopped on East Worley and MO-163. The officer who stopped Howard searched the car for weapons and instead found a plastic bag of crack cocaine.
He was arrested on suspicion of distribution, delivery, manufacture or production of a controlled substance with an unset bond and possession of a controlled substance misdemeanor for marijuana with a $500 bond as well as a charge for radios, musical instruments and phonographs.
2. Man struck in head after three robbers invade home
A Columbia man was struck in the head with a handgun at 8:32 p.m. Sunday after three unidentified males robbed his home.
The suspects kicked open the door to the house, located in the 2800 block of Mexico Gravel Road, according to a news release.
They were wearing bandanas and were armed with handguns. Cash and various items from the residence were stolen and shots were fired into a bedroom wall.
The first victim was treated and released at the scene by medical personnel. A second male was in the upstairs bedroom and suffered no injuries, according to a news release.
The suspects fled through the sliding glass rear doors and were last seen running toward Paris Road. A witness reported one of the suspects fired shots in the direction of the home while fleeing.
“No arrests have been made,” CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said. “We are looking at connections to other home invasion robberies.”
Multiple shell casings were found at the residence and near the intersection of Mexico Gravel Road and Paris Road.
The investigation is ongoing.
3. Four arrested after car theft
Four juveniles suffered injuries after stealing a car and crashing it into a tree Monday.
The juveniles, all 16 years old, stole a vehicle from Swindon Avenue, hit a curb and crashed into a tree in the 4100 block of Grant Lane. A stolen GPS system was also found at the scene, according to a news release.
The owner of the vehicle was unaware that it was missing.
“The vehicle was stolen as it was unlocked and they keys were in (it),” CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said. “The vehicle crashed after hitting a curb. It had major damage. The officers are still looking for the owner of the GPS system that was stolen.”
Officers were dispatched after being notified that the juveniles were walking away from the accident scene. They were found near the 4000 block of Bent Oak, according to a news release.
One juvenile was found lying injured in the yard and was taken to the hospital for serious injuries. Another was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. Two others suffered minor injuries, according to a news release.
Two were taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle. The juveniles in the hospital are pending charges.
