Gov. Jay Nixon proposed a 12.5 percent cut to higher education back in January, and the Missouri Students Association responded by partnering with the Associated Students of the University of Missouri to voice student opposition to the cuts.

After passing a resolution opposing the cuts, MSA began the More for Less campaign with a letter-writing campaign, delivering more than 6,000 letters to legislators. The letters were signed by students, alumni and MU staff.

Before the letters were delivered, Nixon restored $40 million to higher education.

But More for Less carried on, saying the $40 million was a one-time fix. They delivered the letters and began lobbying in Jefferson City.

With several legislators working to create a flat budget for higher education, the House passed a budget restoring funds, and the Senate passed it early Wednesday morning.
