####CPD arrests three after burglary
Columbia Police Department officers responded at 3:38 a.m. Monday to the 1800 block of Bluff Pointe to a call about a suspicious vehicle. The officers found the vehicle and a woman sleeping in the back seat. The woman said she was waiting for her friends. The officers saw three young males, Stephfan Douglas, 18, Abdulmalek Kheiralla, 17, and an unidentified 15-year-old, exit a garage and return to the vehicle. The officers contacted the owners of the garage and found they were missing an iPod and GPS. The teens admitted to stealing a number of objects from several cars in the area and returned them. All three were charged with first-degree burglary, and Douglas and Kheiralla received additional charges of misdemeanor theft.
####Two arrested near Hickman High School
A Columbia police officer posted at Hickman High School arrested Darien Cheatom, 19, at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Providence Road and Austin Avenue. Cheatom had a warrant out for his arrest after failing to appear in court on a domestic assault charge. According to CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer, when the officer tried to arrest Cheatom, he resisted, and the officer had to force him to the ground. During the struggle, a bag of cocaine fell out of Cheatom’s waistband. Cheatom was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. Additionally, 21-year-old Michael Anderson III, an associate of Cheatom’s, was charged with obstructing government operations for not stepping away from the area when ordered to do so by the officer.
####Man charged with endangering a child
Columbia police arrived at America’s Best Value Inn at 8:42 p.m. Tuesday in response to a child endangerment call. According to a police report, witnesses observed a 3-year-old boy struggling to swim in the pool of the establishment. The boy’s father, Robert Zimmerman, was lying down intoxicated at the edge of the pool. Some bystanders pulled the boy out of the pool, and Zimmerman was charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
####Boyfriend charged with domestic assault
A female victim observed a fight downtown at 2:16 a.m. Thursday that involved her boyfriend, Nicholas Shelledy, 20. When she returned, Shelledy confronted her about it. Stroer said Shelledy blamed the victim for the fight and pushed her into a wall as the argument became heated. CPD officers were dispatched to the area of Rosemary Lane and College Avenue and Shelledy was arrested on suspicion of third-degree domestic assault.
