Academic Employee Credit Union was robbed at 2:20 p.m. Monday. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.
Investigations revealed the perpetrator was a black male in his late 20s, between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet tall. He entered the bank at 2804 W. Ash St., handed the teller a note demanding money and then left with the money. There were no weapons involved and no customers inside the bank at the time.
This is the seventh commercial robbery to take place in September, according to online Columbia police statistics. The percentage of commercial robberies in the city increased to 7.3 percent from 5.8 percent at the same time last year.
The robbery is still under investigation, according to the news release.
