Students crowded Sunday in front of the steps of Jesse Hall to find out who would be the winner of this year’s Homecoming competition. Members of the Homecoming Steering Committee announced the winners in each category.
In the Residence Halls division, third place overall went to Hatch Hall, second place to Laws Hall and first place to Johnston and Wolpers halls.
In the Greek Life division, Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Chi Omega and Tau Kappa Epsilon took third place overall, and Kappa Alpha Theta, Farmhouse and Phi Gamma Delta won second place. The first place winners of the 101st Homecoming competition were Alpha Epsilon Pi and Chi Omega.
Upon hearing the winning announcement, Alpha Epsilon Pi member David Frelich said he was excited.
“(The win is) unreal right now,” Frelich said. “I did not think that would happen.”
Chi Omega member Natalie Menne said she also was excited about the win and cried when the winning pairing was announced.
“I’m speechless,” Menne said. “I thought we would do well, but I didn’t think we would win. We worked really hard (for this).”
After the winners were announced, members of Alpha Epsilon Pi and Chi Omega could be heard cheering and chanting, “I believe that we will win.”
In the blood drive category, Delta Upsilon and Pi Beta Phi took third place. Delta Tau Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma took second place. First place was a three-way tie among Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Chi Omega and Tau Kappa Epsilon; Alpha Epsilon Pi and Chi Omega; and Kappa Alpha Theta, Farmhouse and Phi Gamma Delta.
In the Homecoming parade category, Alpha Epsilon Pi and Chi Omega took third place. Alpha Delta Pi and Phi Kappa Theta took second place, and Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Chi Omega and Tau Kappa Epsilon took first place.
For Decorate the District, Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Chi Omega and Tau Kappa Epsilon took third place. Kappa Delta and Kappa Alpha Order took second place. Kappa Alpha Theta, Farmhouse, and Phi Gamma Delta took first place.
The Talent competition winners were Delta Tau Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma in third place; Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Gamma Rho and Tau Kappa Epsilon in second place; and Alpha Epsilon Pi and Chi Omega in first place.
Best Choreography in the Talent competition went to Delta Gamma, Phi Delta Theta and Kappa Sigma.
Best Script went to Alpha Epsilon Pi and Chi Omega for their skit that incorporated the Beatles into its plot.
Best Supporting Actress went to Judith from Alpha Epsilon Pi and Chi Omega’s Beatles-themed skit. Best Supporting Actor went to John Anderson from Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Chi Omega and Tau Kappa Epsilon, who live-tweeted their performance and encouraged audience members to tweet along during the show.
Best Actor went to Dave the Bard from “A Bard’s Tale” by Phi Mu, Delta Sigma Phi and Beta Sigma Psi. Best Actress went to Jesse Hall from “The Lone Ranger and the Greed for Gold” by Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Gamma Rho and Tau Kappa Epsilon.
In the Talent in-between acts category, the Official Dance Crew took third place, Maggie Sly and Brianne Boland of Pi Beta Phi took second, and the men of Delta Chi took first place for their rendition of “Some Nights” by Fun.
