The Missouri Tigers broke records and won medals this weekend at the Husky Invite in Seattle, Wash. and at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., home of the No. 1-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks.
Freshman sprinter Markesh Woodson broke MU’s record for the Men’s 60-meter dash twice in one day, finishing in 6.66 seconds in the preliminary round and 6.63 seconds in the final heat. He finished third overall at the Tyson Invitational.
Senior mid-distance runner Laura Roxberg also broke the school record for the women’s mile with a time of 4:34.59. Roxberg broke a record she set last year with a time of 4:39.91 at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame. She placed fifth overall at the Husky Invitational.
In Arkansas, freshman Tony Carodine won the triple jump, making this his second straight triple jump win of the indoor season. Carodine recorded the mark of 49-08.5 feet for the win. Sophomore high jumper Mitchell Hatten recorded his personal best mark of 6 feet 9 inches and placing fourth overall. Senior Malcolm Pennix finished sixth in the long jump with 24-06.5 feet.
The Tiger throwers earned hardware as well. Sophomore Kearsten Peoples placed fourth overall in the women’s weight throw with a mark of 62-4.0 and junior Bethany Pfeiffer placed sixth overall in the same event with a throw of 60-05.75. Peoples also placed fifth in shot put, with a throw of 51-10.0, while sophomore Jill Rushin finished just ahead in fourth place with a mark of 52-00.25.
On the men’s side, senior Jacob Bullinger placed second in the weight throw for his mark of 62-06.5, and junior Brian Duncan came in at seventh place with a toss of 60-05.25.
A small group of distance runners were sent to compete in the Husky Invite in Seattle. The Husky Invite is often a highlight of many of the best distance runners in the country because of its reputation for records and personal bests being recorded there.
The Tigers will host the Missouri Collegiate Challenge on Friday. This will be the last meet for the Tigers before they travel back to Fayetteville for the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships the following weekend.
