So, I’ve finally hopped on the Jennifer Lawrence bandwagon.
I first got a taste of Lawrence’s work in “The Hunger Games,” where she portrayed the rebellious heroine Katniss Everdeen. I thought she depicted “the girl on fire” quite well, and she continued her hot streak when she snagged the Best Actress Oscar for her role as Tiffany in “Silver Linings Playbook.”
I have to admit, J-Law seems pretty talented and awesome. Of course, everyone has their flaws, but, compared to the typical female celebrity today, Lawrence shines in her own unique way.
For starters, Lawrence doesn’t take things too seriously. She laughs, make jokes and knows how to have a good time. Her acceptance speeches are filled with jokes, witticisms and even a “Mean Girls” reference at the People’s Choice Awards.
“I wish this was like ‘Mean Girls,’ and I could just break this up and throw it to all of you,” she said. “Because you’re all responsible.”
Lawrence is someone I would love to be best friends with. She presents those GIF-able moments that bloggers thirst for. For example, her reaction [when Jack Nicholson interrupted her interview?](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db_3190Gxy8) Priceless. Lawrence was immediately stunned when Nicholson came up to praise her and tell her she reminded him of an old girlfriend of his. So then she fired back, “Do I look like a new girlfriend?” Talk about perfect execution.
Because of her personality, Lawrence seems relatable and down-to-earth, embodying that girl-next-door persona. She talks about how much she loves food and how she’d love to just lounge around all day without changing pants for days after the Oscars. She makes weird faces at cameras and falls on stairs just like the rest of us. She’s humble and modest about her career, explaining in a Vanity Fair interview, “I’m not saving anybody’s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I’m making movies. It’s stupid.”
Besides her quirky, fun-loving personality, Lawrence is proud of her body. She couldn’t care less about starving herself to look thin. Her body is good enough for her, and she’s a good role model for young girls who are basically brainwashed by the media to not eat and stay skinny.
The other day, while browsing on Tumblr, I saw a quote by J-Law in regard to her weight:
“I’m never going to starve myself for a part. I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner.'”
Whoa. How refreshing is that to hear from a rising movie actress surrounded by a media that idolizes skinniness and diets?
Although Lawrence has many positive traits, she’s not flawless. She has made some comments that could have have offended some people. She called her female cat Chaz Bono because the cat was acting masculine and making light of Jesse Eisenberg’s OCD-like quirks on “The Tonight Show.”
In the end, Lawrence is weird, funny and authentic, something that is rarely seen in Hollywood. We can relate to her because she seems real. It’s hard to find something like her in movie stars today, and I believe she shows that actors and actresses can be just as ordinary as the average joe. Although she isn’t perfect and might need to be more self-aware when in front of the camera, Lawrence certainly has set a new standard for Hollywood movie stars.
