Robert “Bobby Beans” Trench (Denzel Washington) and Michael Stigman (Mark Wahlberg) seem like average, run-of-the-mill criminals. They rub elbows with drug lords, hit on women and rob $3 million in a bank heist. Overall, they’re just two pretty bro guys living on the edge, with nobody to trust but one other.
Plot twist: Unbeknownst to each other, they’re both undercover agents trying to bust Papi Greco (Edward James Olmos), the head honcho in the world of Mexican drug cartels.
“2 Guns” is the typical bang-bang-shoot-em-up movie filled with gunplay, high speed car chases, explosions, torture and boobs that most R-rated action movies tend to consist of. Throw in some fart jokes and raging bulls, and “2 Guns” is the epitome of machismo. In other words, it’s a complete boy movie.
The film relies heavily on one thing — the undeniable chemistry of Washington and Wahlberg. While most jokes in “2 Guns” fall flat, both actors have a certain charisma that provides a fair amount of entertaining one-liners and banter when the two are together.
No matter how witty the actors, no amount of bromance can save “2 Guns” from being lost somewhere underneath the many, many action sequences. It’s just what you’d expect from a movie with main characters named Stig and Bobby Beans.
_MOVE gives “2 Guns” 2 out of 5 stars._
