Missouri (3-3) went 0-2 this weekend in a tournament hosted by Texas A&M. The Tigers’ hopes of pulling an upset against No. 9 Baylor were spoiled Friday night as the Bears went up, 2-0, before the Tigers scored their first goal late in the game. It was the first score Baylor conceded all season.
On Sunday, Missouri lost an overtime heartbreaker, 2-1, to San Diego. The loss is Missouri’s second in overtime this season.
**Diggs progresses despite injury**
Senior forward Alyssa Diggs continues to fight a nagging hamstring injury as the season wears on, coach Bryan Blitz said. Diggs was at “60 percent,” Blitz said. However, she has improved her status every game, as seen in her ever-increasing minutes played per game, from 45 in the season opener to 73 in the loss against San Diego on Sunday. Despite the injury, Diggs has jumped into the fray headfirst. She marked an assist on Missouri’s first goal of the season against Pacific. Her first goal came in a 3-0 win over UMKC on Sept. 1.
**Nottingham and Flynn day-to-day**
Diggs is not the only Tiger who is a little banged up. Senior forward Danielle Nottingham and sophomore defender Lauren Flynn are both on a day-to-day basis with injuries. Nottingham notched a goal and two assists in the four games since her injury. Flynn also sustained an injury against Memphis that sidelined her for two games. She worked back into the rotation during the weekend tournament.
**SEC roundup**
Conference play is quickly approaching for the Tigers with only two games left before their first Southeastern Conference match against Mississippi State. Missouri is currently sixth out of seven teams in the SEC East.
The Tigers’ toughest test will come in back-to-back home matches against No. 10 Florida and Georgia. Georgia sits two spots above Missouri in the East at No. 4. Florida, first in the East, comes to Columbia on Sept. 29. The last time the Tigers and Gators met on the pitch, Florida ended Mizzou’s SEC tournament run in a 3-0 shutout.
