_SCENE: MU STUDENT CENTER_
STUDENT has a Blackboard quiz due in 15 minutes.
“I have plenty of time,” he says confidently.
Reaching into his bag, it hits him: his laptop is sitting on his desk in his dorm.
_“Noooooooo!”_ he cries. “What am I to do?”
But just when our unlucky hero seems done for…
_ENTER: Matt Estes, IT Help Desk employee/knight in shining black and gold T-shirt, with a computer for STUDENT to rent, free of charge, thus saving the day._
_END SCENE_
Okay, so Estes’ job isn’t filled with that much drama. But the sophomore from Alton, Ill., can seem like a life saver when technology goes awry. Whether you need to rent a computer or just have a technical question, the biological engineering major is here to save the day. Most of the questions he fields are related to printing difficulties and general MizzouWireless complaints.
But every now and then, there’s that one inquiry that stands out.
“We had a kid ask once if he should wear a suit to court,” Estes says. “That was a little weird.”
**Chris Wood**
_Avid dog walker_
Chris Wood and his two Great Pyreneeses can be seen walking around campus some days. Wood walks Harry, 6, and Harland, 2, each day.
Wood has a fondness for large dogs, having owned a Newfoundland and two other Pyreneeses.
“Big dogs are calmer, and they have a higher emotional intelligence,” he says.
Wood is often surprised by how much dog owners underestimate their pets.
“Every dog is intelligent,” he says.
Walking with Harland and Harry helps Wood build strength in his ankle, which he broke five years ago at his pipe-fitting job. Wood is now on disability benefits.
With more time on his hands, Wood and his wife take trips throughout the United States.
Their trips have led them to discover Copper Harbor, Mich., with their pets in tow.
“We take our dogs up there with us,” he said. “It’s the coolest place in the world. You feel like you’re on top of the world.”
