Columbia Police officers seized more than 7 pounds of marijuana and $23,900 in cash from MU seniors Joshua Dillick, 22, and Nicholas Kampe, 23, on Wednesday.

The police’s narcotics and organized crime detectives served a narcotics search warrant in reference to an ongoing drug-trafficking investigation in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

“It’s a joint investigation,” police spokesman Joe Bernhard said. “I’m not sure who went to whom, but … I know there was a joint investigation between the postal inspector (and CPD).”

The unit served the warrant at 3:25 p.m. at Dillick’s home on Fenimore Drive. Officers recovered approximately 6 pounds of marijuana. That search led the unit to Kampe’s Ash Street apartment at 9 p.m. Police seized $23,900 in cash, drug paraphernalia and more than a pound of marijuana.

The two students were taken into custody on felony charges of distribution, delivery, manufacture or production of a controlled substance. Bernhard said Missouri law lumps all of these crimes under one category, but he said he believes Dillick and Kampe were distributing the narcotics.

“If it’s 6 pounds and it’s not plants, that would be distribution,” Bernhard said.

Kampe and Dillick were transported to Boone County Jail. Bail was set at $20,000 each. Kampe posted bail, but Dillick remains in jail as of Sunday.

The release said no additional arrests were made.

State court records list no previous drug charges for Kampe or Dillick.
