The third suspect in the murder investigation of 23-year-old Dontay Tolston was extradited to Boone County authorities Sunday night.

Jimiah Lambert, 20, was [arrested](https://www.themaneater.com/blogs/crime/2014/3/8/third-suspect-arrested-january-homicide/) on suspicion of second-degree murder by the United States Marshals Services in New Orleans on March 6.

Lambert is listed as an inmate at Boone County Jail with a bond of $1 million. A preliminary hearing for Lambert is scheduled for 2 p.m. April 23. He will be represented by a public defender.

According to a probable cause statement, Tolston’s death was likely drug-related. Police discovered marijuana and cocaine packaged for sale where he was found.

A search of Tolston’s cellphone also revealed that the last six calls made or received belonged to the cellphone of Martell Smith, 21.

Smith told authorities he drove Lambert and Derrick Copelin, 17, to Tolston’s residence to purchase marijuana. Smith also claimed Lambert aimed a gun at Tolston, who produced a gun in response.

Smith went on to say that multiple gunshots were fired. The three suspects vacated the scene and drove to Smith’s residence.

Tolston was found lying on the floor with a gunshot wound, on the evening of Jan. 2. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 4 a.m. the following day.

Smith and Copelin were arrested in Columbia on Jan. 6 and in New Orleans on Jan. 7, respectively.

A preliminary hearing for Copelin was initially scheduled for February 14, but was rescheduled multiple times following the defendant’s request for a continuation for negotiation. The next hearing for Copelin is scheduled for May 2.

Smith’s arraignment was held March 24, with a hearing scheduled for April 14.
