Missouri Students Association Senate Speaker Ben Bolin said 55 universities are under scrutiny from the U.S. Department of Education Title IX, which states that no person shall be discriminated against on the basis of sex in any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistant.

Bolin said MU is not under scrutiny.

However, with the recent responses to how the university handled the death of MU student Sasha Menu Courey, MU decided to remove the Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Center from the MSA fiscal budget and MSA Bylaws.

The RSVP Center shall become a permanent fixture in the Department of Student Life.

Bolin said this will allow the center to reach out more to students and become a bigger part of campus.

A special session was held for MSA Senators at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Bolin proposed Resolution 53-49, which was an act to amend the MSA Bylaws via referendum to move the RSVP Center to being a fixture of the Department of Student Life.

The resolution was passed by the 19 of 43 senators present at the special session, with two abstentions from Operations Committee chairman Nick Schwartz and senator Mark McDaniels.

Per the MSA Bylaws, MSA must amend them via a campus-wide referendum, which will be sent out Wednesday at 8 a.m.

The referendum will be available for 24 hours, Bolin said.
