One hundred twenty-nine teams, two guys and a mission that college football fans everywhere would love to have the opportunity to go on.
Seth Vander Tuig and Mike Fulton are on the adventure of a lifetime: travelling to see every FBS college football team play — what they call “Mission: College Football.”
Vander Tuig and Fulton will be attending Faurot Field on Sept. 13 to watch Missouri play Central Florida. But they ventured on quite the trek before even coming to Columbia.
The name “Mission: College Football” was birthed last year, when the two high school friends saw three college football games in three days.
Although it was Vander Tuig’s idea to attend the games, it was Fulton’s idea to name the special weekend.
“By the Kentucky vs. Alabama game, it was a full-fledged deal for the both of us,” Vander Tuig said.
After the UCF–Missouri game, the duo will have seen 52 college football teams play in-person. They have 77 to go to complete their mission.
Vander Tuig said he’s been to 19 stadiums, and that Saturday’s game at Faurot will be the 138th college football game he’ll have been to.
All of this traveling wouldn’t have been possible without support, though.
“We want to give another huge thanks to the wives; they’re both fantastic,” Fulton said. “They’re always supporting us.”
Though they’ve seen plenty of games before this weekend, there are certain aspects
they’re both excited to witness about Faurot Field.
“I’m really excited for this game,” Fulton said. “I think it’s going to be a closely contested game. Central Florida played Penn State pretty tough when they were in Ireland, and Mizzou is doing pretty well, moving up to No. 20 in the rankings.”
While Vander Tuig has already been to Memorial Stadium, he’s eager to return. Fulton said that Vander Tuig has told him “about all the renovations” at Memorial Stadium.
“I’m also curious and excited to see if Mizzou has adapted to the SEC culture yet because there are certain traits that SEC teams adopt,” Fulton said. “I’m excited to see the level of excitement for new and unchartered territory.”
The two men said they enjoy things beyond just the football games themselves. They like to meander around tailgates and meet people.
“Every place stands out in its own way,” Vander Tuig said. “That’s why we love college football. The people and the atmosphere. It’s an amazing experience to see two teams that you aren’t a huge fan of and just be a fan and enjoy the experience.”
