The Mizzou Alumni Association announced Tuesday afternoon that it will form a Black Alumni Network. A grassroots effort by alumni gathered over 1,000 signatures in support of this effort.
The decision to start the Black Alumni Network comes in the wake of former UM System President Tim Wolfe and Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin both announcing their resignations Monday after they were criticized for their handling of racial tensions on campus.
“By utilizing our large and diverse constituency, the Mizzou Alumni Association will be proactive in traditions of Missouri’s flagship university,” the organization said in an email. “Going forward, we expect to play a vital role in shaping the future of … Mizzou.”
The Black Alumni Network was created “to connect black alumni with one another in support of Mizzou,” according to the Mizzou Alumni Association.
