Monochromatic is a staple minimalist trend that has become very popular this year. This trend is all about being “matchy-matchy.” Which in itself just means that you are sticking to one color or color scheme throughout your whole outfit. I like to think of creating a monochromatic outfit like baking a cake. With that in hand, today I will be giving you step-by-step directions on how to bake a crisp and delicious monochromatic outfit.
Ingredients:
1 cup of confidence
2 tablespoons of your favorite color
1 of each:
–A pair of pants or a skirt
–A shirt or a sweater
–A coat
–Pair of colored shoes
Step One: Prep the Ingredients
Decide on what color you think will create the most cohesive outfit. My tip would be to choose one base item to work around. Therefore, when you add other pieces you will have a target to follow. Be weary that all the colors need to blend well together. All of your pieces must be at least one shade lighter or darker than the color of your base item to work.
Step Two: Mix the Ingredients
After you have collected the pieces you wish to use to create your outfit, you want to focus on layering. The biggest thing is you don’t want to look like a walking crayon. Therefore, make sure your items must balance each other out. Try different cuts or lengths to balance out the color.
Step Three: Bake for 5 to 10 minutes
Now that you have decided on a color and chosen pieces the balance each other out, it’s time to bake. Dress yourself and play around with the outfit to make sure everything works together. This is where your cup of confidence comes in handy. Some people are skeptical of wearing too much of the same color, but in fact the idea can be quite fun and the execution looks couture.
Step Four: Decorate
Remember to use oven-mitts when taking your outfit out, because it will be hot! After letting the outfit cool for a few minutes, add some accessories for a completed look. Adding a matching coat and a pair of shoes will do the trick. If you aren’t comfortable with your accessories matching the outfit, I would recommend a neutral color such as black, white, grey, or nude.
Step Five: Enjoy
Without further ado, the outfit is complete! Take to the streets, the grocery store or wherever you choose to roam with your freshly-baked monochromatic outfit.
