Missouri’s men’s basketball team waltzed into Mizzou Arena on Wednesday night looking to rebound from a two game slide in the Southeastern Conference against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Coming in, slow starts were the key — or at least, avoiding the slow start was the key. A 3-pointer from freshman point guard Terrence Phillips and a bucket from senior center Ryan Rosburg conquered that as Mizzou led 5-0 early, but ultimately the result mirrored that of the last two as Missouri fell 60-57.

The hot start didn’t last as the Tigers hit the first of three four-minute scoring droughts in the night with 12:14 to play in the first half. After opening with a fast pace, both teams struggled to score and at the 12-minute mark, Mizzou led 12-7.

By halftime, the scoring slump continued and the score was tied at 22. Sophomore guard Tramaine Isabell had 7 points to lead the Tigers.

The second half was more of the same. After eight early lead changes in the half, Missouri struggled to score and it caught up to them at the 15:14 mark. Georgia was able to ignite a 17 run after trailing 34-33. The Bulldogs garnered a 50-34 lead on the back of four 3-pointers.

With 6:02 remaining in the game, Missouri took one last crack at it. The Tigers were sparked to a 12-2 run by an Isabell jumper to cut the lead to 56-53 with 56 seconds to play.

A foul on an inbound and then missed free throws costed Mizzou down the stretch, as they fell for the fourth time in conference play.
