With the postseason approaching, the bubble in between the top and bottom half of the Southeastern Conference is not where Missouri’s women’s basketball team (21-6, 8-6 SEC) wants to be. But that’s where the team finds itself.

Given its current conference ranking, each game serves as the greatest importance for their postseason portfolio and Sunday’s 69-55 win over the Auburn Tigers only helps.

Although Missouri led early, the team couldn’t break away. After all, Auburn has proven itself as a comeback team on multiple occasions this season. This includes overcoming a double-digit deficit against a high ranked Florida team one week earlier. They would win by 22.

The lead was easier to maintain against the comeback kids given the Auburn players that took the floor. With its main point-producers on the bench or absent on the scoreboard, the team didn’t exactly put its best foot forward. For one stretch in the first quarter, Missouri was battling five players that average under 5 points.

However, Auburn’s lack of production shouldn’t receive all the credit. Missouri easily could’ve slipped up as it had toward the end of its previous game against Arkansas. The team didn’t trail once.

Missouri continued to limit its turnovers, a major feat considering a few weeks ago the team was giving up 20 plus turnovers and Auburn ranks in the top ten in the nation for steals. In the end, it was the team’s 52 percent shooting rate that kept them on top to achieve its 21st win of the season.

The Tigers will travel to No. 16 Kentucky for another high stakes game in determining their placement in the conference Feb. 25.
