Patrick Graham is the new student representative to the UM System Board of Curators, Gov. Jay Nixon announced today in a [news release](https://governor.mo.gov/news/archive/gov-nixon-nominates-student-curator-university-missouri-two-missouri-commission-human).
If confirmed by the Missouri Senate, Graham will serve until Jan. 1, 2018, and will be the first representative from MU since 2009.
Graham is a vocal music education major at MU and is expected to graduate in spring 2018, according to the release. He is a member of the Alumni Association Student Board, a site leader for Mizzou Alternative Breaks and a resident assistant for the Missouri Scholars Academy.
In addition to the responsibilities of attending curators’ meetings, the student representative will be a member of the [search committee](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2016/2/5/curators-discuss-presidential-search-committee-and/) for the next UM System president.
However, the student representative to the board is not a voting member. Twenty-seven bills to give the student representative voting power [have failed in the Missouri legislature](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2015/1/28/asum-continues-lobbying-legislators-student-curato/) since 2002.
Graham replaces Tracy Mulderig, a doctoral student at UM-St. Louis who had been the student representative since February 2014.
