Junior Michael Chadwick had a huge day for Missouri at men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, scoring 15 individual points for the Tigers. The Tigers sit in sixth place after two days of competition.
Thursday finals began with the 200-yard freestyle relay. After setting a school record time of 1:16.87 in the preliminary heats, the Tigers placed seventh to earn All-America honors. The team consisted of Chadwick, junior Christian Aragona, senior Matthew Margritier and junior Andrew Sansoucie.
Chadwick continued his dominant meet with a fourth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. He lowered his own school record with a time of 19.04. Florida sophomore Caeleb Dressel won the race with an American-record time of 18.20, and Southeastern Conference swimmers took three of the top four spots in the event.
The Tigers had one diver compete in the 1-meter competition. Senior Clark Thomas finished in 20th place, missing Honorable Mention All-America honors by four spots.
The Tigers picked up their second All-American relay finish of the day in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of junior Carter Griffin (backstroke), junior Fabian Schwingenschlogl (breaststroke), Sansoucie (butterfly) and Michael Chadwick (freestyle) took fourth place with a time of 3:04.99. It was the highest finish for a Missouri relay in the program’s history.
Tomorrow’s preliminaries kick off at 9 a.m.
