Missouri finished eighth at men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, the highest finish in program history. Juniors Fabian Schwingenschlogl and Michael Chadwick helped the team tally 184 total points.
Junior Carter Griffin started off the evening for Missouri with a 12th place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, earning Honorable Mention All-America honors. He touched the wall in 1:40.16, breaking his own school record by one-hundredth of a second.
Chadwick’s first race of the day was the 100-yard freestyle championship final. The junior placed sixth with a time of 41.98, less than a tenth of a second off of his school record of 41.89.
After winning the 100-yard breaststroke event Friday, Schwingenschlogl continued to score major team points for the Tigers. He touched third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:51.84. The junior was just six-hundredths of a second off of Sam Tierney’s school record of 1:51.78.
In his first NCAA Championship competition, freshman Kyle Goodwin became an Honorable Mention All-American in the platform diving competition. He placed 13th, scoring four points for the Tigers.
The evening ended with the 400-yard freestyle relay. Missouri placed 14th, touching the wall in 2:52.26. The team consisted of senior Matthew Margritier, freshman Mikel Schreuders, Schwingenschlogl and Chadwick.
The Tigers had the fifth highest finish of any Southeastern Conference school and were only four points behind seventh place Tennessee.
