A food delivery driver allegedly filed a false robbery report Thursday night at Wolpers Hall, resulting in an MU Alert notification about the report and the driver’s arrest, according to an MU News Bureau news release.

The release alleges that Courtney Chancellor, a 23-year-old who is not a student at MU, said a black man in his 20s approached her with a gun as she was attempting to make a delivery and demanded money.

Chancellor has since been arrested for filing a false report, according to MU Alert. This is currently a Class A misdemeanor, and can result in up to a year of jail time or a fine of up to $1,000. There are currently no records of her arrest on the Missouri Casenet website or Boone County Jail Detainee Database.

“Using evidence from surveillance cameras, we interviewed Courtney Chancellor, and she confessed that she had reported the crime falsely,” MU Police Department Chief Doug Schwandt said in an MU Alert report.

The university has also apologized for omitting the location of the incident in its initial emergency alert. The MU Alert occurred hours after MUPD officials announced at the Missouri Students Association’s Roar At Us forum that they would be including locations in initial alerts.

“We apologize; this omission was due to human error, and we take full responsibility. We have identified the cause for the error, and it has been corrected,” Vice Chancellor for Operations Gary Ward said in a statement emailed to students Friday morning.

The police report was filed at 8:35 p.m. Thursday, and students were alerted via MU Alert and continually updated as the investigation continued until the final MU Alert “all clear” update at around 1:30 a.m.
