Junior Brianna Lashway led Missouri tennis this weekend at the Mizzou Invitational in Kansas City. Lashway sealed two doubles wins and came out undefeated in singles play throughout the invite.

During day one of the invitational, Lashway and freshman Mackenzy Middlebrooks won 6-4 in doubles play against Nebraska. Sophomore Cassidy Spearman and Lashway defeated Louisville in No. 1 doubles 6-1, giving Missouri two doubles wins on the same day.

In singles play against Memphis, Lashway, Spearman, junior Amina Ismail and Middlebrooks all secured wins for Missouri. Lashway defeated Memphis player Hanna Sohn in two tiebreaker sets, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3), and Middlebrooks solidified an impressive start to her collegiate career by defeating Clara Kuehn of Memphis, 6-3, 6-0.

After day two, the Tigers clinched two of seven doubles matches against Louisville and Memphis and three of eight singles matches against Nebraska.

Senior Bea Machado Santos and Ismail went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles, dominating Louisville’s Olivia Boesing and Sena Suswam 6-1 and Memphis’ Gabrielle Paul and Josephine Cao 6-2.

Lashway sealed yet another victory in singles play against Nebraska’s Jeannie Lozowski, coming back from a deficit to win 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3. Ismail also sealed another win for Missouri as she defeated Nebraska’s Hayley Haakenstad 7-5, 6-2, finishing the day with a 3-0 record. Freshman Tate Schroeder won her first match of the season against Lisa Andersson of Nebraska, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

On the final day of the invitational, the Tigers took away three more wins in singles play.

Spearman, Middlebrooks and Lashway all finished the invite with singles victories against Louisville. Lashway battled at the No. 2 singles spot against Tiffany Huber, winning 7-6 (3), 6-3. Lashway concluded the weekend with an undefeated record in tiebreakers.

Missouri tennis returns back to competition at the ITA Central Regionals in Minneapolis on Oct. 13. On Oct. 1, the Tigers will send Santos to the ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles.
