Missouri volleyball opened its travel weekend with a win over Arkansas 3-0 Friday night. The sweep helped the Tigers move to 3-0 in the Southeastern Conference and 12-3 on the season. This is Missouri’s fourth consecutive sweep, three of which came in SEC play.
The Tigers dominated the Razorbacks, winning the sets 25-18, 25-16 and 25-14. Missouri’s offense stole the show, hitting .435, a season high, with 48 kills.
Sophomore Alyssa Munlyn had an impressive night, hitting a career-high .750 with 10 kills. That hitting percentage entered the top 10 all-time individual single-match hitting percentage record book.
Seniors Emily Thater and Carly Kan continued their dominance and hit .700 and .500, respectively. Kan had 12 kills, the team high.
Coach Wayne Kreklow has switched his offense to a 5–1, and it seems to be working nicely. The Tigers have been able to move around quicker on the court and attack the ball with much higher power. Junior Courtney Eckenrode, the team’s star setter in the 5-1 offense, had her seventh consecutive match with more than 30 assists.
The second set was Missouri’s best, as they took advantage of Arkansas’ four attack errors. Offense excelled with 16 kills, including five from Munlyn. Defense also stepped up, only allowing Arkansas 11 kills on .212 hitting.
Missouri continues its southern road trip on Sunday when they head to Louisiana State for another SEC matchup. LSU sits on the bottom of the SEC rankings with an overall record of 5-9.
