Missouri (11-5-1) soccer beat Georgia 4-3 on Sunday afternoon in Athens, Georgia.

The game was dominated by Georgia (5-11-1) in the first half. The Bulldogs scored two early first-half goals in the seventh and eighth minutes respectively and held Missouri scoreless until the break.

Despite a slow start, Mizzou came back in the second half. Freshman standout Sarah Luebbert put the Tigers on the board before a minute of the second half had been played.

Shortly after, junior Kaitlyn Clark erased the Bulldogs’ early lead by adding a goal of her own. Later in the half, Clark added an assist to her statline after an impressive cross to junior Jessica Johnson found the back of the net, giving the Tigers a 3-2 lead.

The last of the Tigers’ goals came from another talented first year player in her own right, Madison Lewis. The redshirt freshman scored off a header served up by junior Savannah Trujillo.

Georgia’s Caroline Waters netted a goal late in the game, but this was not enough to spark an offensive run for the Bulldogs. The score remained 4-3.

####Game notes

One thing’s for certain: Georgia is no Arkansas or Notre Dame or any of the talented teams that have found themselves on the Tigers’ road schedule. However, any road win in a major conference is a positive sign. For the Tigers to take the next step, they must learn how to win close, low-scoring games on the road against teams that are better than them.

Missouri’s next game is at home against Florida. The game is on Thursday at 8 p.m. on the SEC Network. It will be the last game of the Tigers’ regular season.
